Doing State

Pay attention to the shift in momentum

When moving, all of your attention is captured by listening for what comes next

You’re in a doing state, receiving the cue and responding to it

And over time once the practice becomes familiar, you’re able to get into a flow state where your responses are almost second nature and you can move almost without thinking at all

It’s the same thing off of our mats, we operate throughout the day in accordance with our lists of things to do moving from one to the next and responding to unexpected events that inevitably pop up along the way

And this isn’t a good or bad state; it’s a neutral state that is very much a part of life

When it can become harmful is when we don’t allow ourselves to rest along the way, remaining in our doing state is not a sustainable way to live

Pausing offers a shift into a being state; where we have the ability to reflect and recalibrate if needed

These moments of stillness, even if just for 30 seconds are nourishing and necessary

Switching from doing to being is not always simple, throughout your practice today notice any resistance you may feel about doing so

Since we are all familiar with the ocean living in Tampa, think about your favorite beach (John’s Pass) and visualize yourself sitting in the sand watching the shore; watching the tide break and recede over and over and over again

Bring that essence of ebb and flow with you as you move this morning; allow yourself to
